To Do Lists

I like to make lists
Of things to do
Today
This week
And forward

They help me keep track
Of important things
Vacation plans
And promises made
Projects in flight
With more on the way
Films to see
And bills to pay
And stuff
I shouldn't forget
To buy
At the market

I mull over my lists
Time after time
And make new ones
Rewriting
Revising
Prioritizing
Shuffling items from
Previous days
I'm really rather obsessed
With my lists
You see
I can't help it

I have to write down
The thoughts
In my head
As they swim around
Like hungry sharks
Looking for blood
Competing for my attention
And can I mention
Driving me mad
In bed
When it's late
And I'm tired
And should be sleeping

Yes
Let's organize
Prioritize
What's important
Today
And what can slide?
What to do first
And why?
It's important
To always ask why

Should I
Start with the easiest
Items today
Or start with the worst
And work
My way
Up
To more interesting things?
Good question!

How much time
Will I need
To finish it all?
Should I ask
For help
Or just knuckle down
And do it myself?
It might never
Get done
If I go it alone
But it's fun
To plan
Both ways

Yes
I need my lists
To keep me on track
So
When I get
Distracted
My judgment
Impacted
They snap me right back
Into line
And all goes fine

Lists
Are like tickets
To some future date
Where I'm happy
Productive
And even
Lost weight
A future where I
Have accomplished
All manner of things
Some are small
And hardly worth mention
But all
Seem beautiful
In their completion

The future looks nice
So tidy and neat
Fulfilling
Rewarding
Joyful and sweet
Where no one is cranky
And everyone's thankful
For all that they have
And all that will be

We're having such fun
In those future days
Nothing is boring
Unfair
Or annoying
And it never rains
Cause the sun
Always shines
And nobody ever cooks
FISH
For lunch
In the microwave
