The Persistence Of Love

Love is not a warm feeling or a flutter in the heart that strikes when you see a person at their best. Love is having that feeling and that flutter when you see them at their worst - when they’re tired, sick, mournful, irritable, when they’re caught up in an awkward or unflattering situation, when they feel hopeless, when they have nothing left to give.

Love is the ultimate measure of resilience and acceptance. You either feel that love, that acceptance for a person, or you don’t. If your affection fades when they disappoint you, when they are not providing you with what you want or living up to your standards, then it wasn’t love that you felt for them in the first place.

Love is not transactional; it is transcendent, persistent, and unwavering. Love is not a warm season or a rewarding chapter in life. It is an attribute of the soul which, like being left or right-handed, is fixed and not subject to conditions.
