The Shallows

Sometimes you ride

The peak of the wave

High and fast and thrilling

And sometimes you’re stuck in the shallows

Paddling

And positioning

Lining up for the next big swell

That you hope

Will lift you up

And make you soar

With an awesome roar

Make you feel like you’re

A thousand miles from shore

The wave won’t last

You know this

They always crash

You know it’s true

You know

But you’re willing to forget

For a while

And dream of a ride

That will never end

Sooner or later

We’ll find our way back

To the shallows

But it’s comforting

To pretend
