May the First

May the First

Is a special day

A hopeful day

A joyful day

An emerging dawn

A welcome gateway

To the warmer months

The fertile months

The growing season

That feeds us all

Both physically

And spiritually

May the First

Is an important day

A beacon of hope

To light the way

For workers’ rights

And human rights

For childhood

And innocence

And all of the things

We claim to honor

But sometimes

Leave neglected

Exposed

And unprotected

From the forces of greed

And power entrenched

Of leverage

And oppression

Don’t give in

To inhumanity

Don’t lend support

To the insanity

That claims that the haves

Will take care of the rest

Out of their

Generosity

It’s never happened

In this world

And it never will

Without the will

The steadfast defense

And fraternity

Of those who stand

Courageously

Together

Forever

Tirelessly

Fighting

For what is right

What’s right for one

Is right for all

We rise together

Or we fall

Splintered

And vanquished

By those who see us not

As people

But as resources

For the construction

Of an empire

Where one has all

And all have none

And no one matters

Except the ones

Who scheme

And play the game

Cheating, swindling

All the way

Clawing, thrashing

Until the day

When they lose the gold

The sold their souls

To gain

Only to have

Another schemer

Steal it away
