Ride

Maybe one day
We can go for a ride
I'll give you the keys
If you'd like to drive
We can go anywhere
I really don't care
I just want to feel
The wind in my hair

And let myself drift back
To a better time
When my love and my life
Were fully aligned
When I was yours
And you were mine
And each wonderful day
Was special

We fight against fate
So desperate to win
Determined and strong
We refuse to give in
But fate takes its cold
Brutal
Toll in the end
And the fight
Does more damage
Than the troubles
We seek to upend

I remember the years
When we talked all the day
And never once ran short of
Nice things to say
I remember it seemed
That time was too short
The hours raced by
Till we said good night

We struggle with fate
But fate always wins
The last arbitration
For the best of our sins
When reason prevails
We finally let go
Crushed from the weight
Of raw feelings in tow

Maybe one day
We can still take that ride
I've no keys to share
As I no longer drive
Maybe we can
Sit on a bench
And pretend
That we're going somewhere
Holding hands
Two old friends

For as long as we can
We'll remember then
Just how special it was
From beginning to end

My life was so lovely
When you were with me
My heart was yours
And yours was mine
Our lives so perfectly
Intertwined
When I was yours
And you were mine
When I was yours
And you were mine
