A Better Version Of Me

In my mind 

I see myself 

Performing all manner of 

Impressive things 

Beautifully 

And effortlessly 

With grace and inspiration 

In the harsh light of reality 

I’m nowhere close 

To this ideal 

But I work on it 

Day after day 

I struggle on 

Month after month 

To make it real 

Or move a little closer 

At least 

To the substance of my dreams 

To develop  

A better version of me 

That I’ve foreseen 

And hope one day to be
