Five years ago today, Donald Trump stood beside Vladimir Putin in Helsinki and told the world that he took Putin’s word over the assessments of US intelligence agencies. Let that sink in. I mean, really. Think about it. It would be like FDR claiming that he trusted Mussolini more than the Pentagon. It was one of the most absurd moments in all of US history.
Today, Joe Biden stood in Helsinki to welcome the nation of Finland into NATO. Neighboring Sweden will follow shortly.
Elections have consequences. Trump disparaged NATO, attempted to extort political favors from Ukraine, and lavished praised on Putin at every opportunity. If the pro-Putin GOP regains control of the White House, human history will enter its darkest age.
